This is a nice combination if you can pull it off. Now for an early 60's feel when wild customs were popular and drag racing was king, I knew the truck had to be blown or injected, preferably on an early Hemi. It also had to be running a stick, and the top HAD to be chopped - and that's just for starters! So now the search was on for the right body. The search ended when I stumbled across a '34 International ½ ton pickup in a field in Nebraska. Not only was it different from the average Ford or Chevy, but the slope and shape of the roof was just screamin' hot rod. Especially once I got 3" whacked out of it! One of the main reasons for me to build a vehicle like the Hauler was to show people how to completely build a custom vehicle from the ground up. The thing that makes a project like this tough is that nothing is made specifically for this application and things aren't going to just bolt right on. The best that you can get is some sort of universal kit that will need to be adapted to fit your needs and application. The purpose of this project is to teach people how to think outside the box and build and fabricate stuff when parts don't fit, or nothing is available. You can do this and still have things look good and be safe and reliable. On the outside The Hauler looks like a show car, but with a 500hp injected early Hemi, a 6spd, and 15" wide slicks, this thing has the attitude, feel, and performance of 1961. But it also has the reliability and driveability of today's new parts and technology. That's what you want, something you can drive. . . AND smoke the tires and scare old ladies with. That my friends, is what real hot-rodding is all about!!!!
